Christian Barske is a partner at KBS and advises technology-driven companies across Europe, the United States, and Japan. With a background in mechanical engineering, his roots are in the classic technical fields – while today he just as often supports clients in electronics, CII/software, and AI. He covers the full spectrum from IP strategy and drafting/prosecution through opposition, invalidity, infringement, and licensing – clear, pragmatic, and always focused on commercial value.

IP Design is his inner driver: ideally, IP should not follow product development, but be integrated early by a cross-functional team spanning R&D, product/marketing, and IP. The goal is to create protected experiences and experience chains. This means consistently securing the planned technical solution—and also all plausible design-arounds that could lead to the same experience.

To make such protectable experiences visible early and translate them into a robust IP architecture, he builds—together with the client—a team of the right technical, business, and IP experts. The approach combines foresight (trends, market, competition), white-spot/white-space analyses, and a systematic design-around perspective, underpinned by a clear methodology for IP decisions. He uses AI-supported analyses as a tool to make this depth efficiently scalable.

Outside work, he is the father of three boys (13, 11, 8). For balance, sailing and classic cars are at the top of his list.
